Surrender Your Heart

"Surrender your heart completely to the Lord.  He desires nothing else from you.  He can be won by no other means, neither by unlimited scholarship, nor by pompous vows and colourful rituals."

Celestial Poems of Sathya Sai Baba

"He does not allow you to move back;
Nor does he allow you to go forward.
He fills your mind with a lot of anxiety.
How can you ever understand this Sai?"

The Mother Cat

The mother cat, it is said, carries its newly born kittens, still with unopened eyes, from house to house, depositing them in seven different homes.  By the time the seventh house is reached, the kittens open their eyes and can see well and clearly.

Man changes home every birth.  But his eyes do not open to the truth of God, even after his changing home (lives) many and many a time.

Teach Me

Teach me to feel another's woe,
To hide the faults I see;
That mercy I to others show,
That mercy show to me ...

Celestial Poems of Sathya Sai Baba

"Everything is created from Truth;
Every thing ends in Truth.
Is there any place where Truth does not exist?
Man, behold the Truth which is immaculately pure."

Mistakes

"Every person is apt to commit mistakes without being aware of it.  However
bright the fire, some smoke will emanate from it.  So also, whatever good deed a man might do, there will be mixed with it, a minute trace of evil.  Efforts should be made that the evil is minimised; that the good is more and bad is less."

Ram Navami - 20th April 2013

"We must learn to chant the sweet name of Rama with a pure, unsullied heart, in a spirit of selfless devotion. Men should learn to speak sweetly and pleasingly. Sweet speech confers peace. It is the means to self-realization. Sri Rama loves to dwell in the heart of the man who speaks sweetly. Wholehearted chanting of the name of Rama even once can destroy mountains of sins. But the chanting should not be done mechanically, like a gramophone record. It should emanate from the depths of the heart. You must seek to redeem your lives, by living up to Rama's ideals and proclaiming them to the world. Remember the name of Rama with love. God can be realized only through love and by no other means”.

The Smile

Rama came armed with a bow;
Krishna came armed with a mace;
Sai came armed with a smile
The lack of which ... devastates.

Lead Kindly Light!

The world is full of anger and hatred
craving for lust, power and money;
It is on the brink of destruction.
O! My Lord, the Love incarnate
Show us the direction, dispel darkness,
destroy the evil, sow the seeds of love.
In this faltering, fleeting transitory world
Lead Kindly Light!
Make every act of mine sublime;
Make me, My Lord, an instrument of peace
in Thy hands.

"Before everything, be pure and holy.
Aspirants and sadhakas there are plenty,
but those who are pure in heart are few in number."

First Aid

When it was suggested that each seva dal member should always carry with him a first aid box so that he could serve people more often, Baba modified the contents of the box.

"Carry in it a few tablets of Discrimination and Detachment, an ounce or two of Sense control, a packet of Love and a bandage strip of Fortitude.  Then you can render first aid to people suffering from a stroke of ego, or a bout of greed or a jaundiced vision, or an allergy for service."

Quotable Quotes

"Let the first act of every morning be to make the following resolve for the day:

I shall not fear anyone on Earth.
I shall fear only God.
I shall not bear ill will toward anyone.
I shall not submit to injustice from anyone.
I shall conquer untruth by truth.  And in resisting untruth,
I shall put up with all suffering."

~ Mahatma Ghandi ~

Celestial Poems of Sathya Sai Baba

"The clang of bronze metal is loud;
Thje sound made by gold is unheard.
It is enough if you cultivate
Good virtues and noble thoughts.
Why do devotees need an external coating?"

~ Sri Sathya Sai Baba ~
