Namasmarana

"Do you know the power in reciting My name?
It is the spiritual power to reach Me.
A direct wireless message is sent to Me
When, with all your heart, you repeat My name.
Think of Me and nothing more,
And My eyes will be set on you,
Loving you with My glance,
Like a mother to her child,
Blessing you with My divine love for always."

Forbearance

"Forbearance is equivalent to truth itself.
Forbearance is the heart of righteousness,
forbearance is the very essence of the Veda,
forbearance is non-violence in practice.
Forbearance is contentment, it is compassion.
Truly it is everything in all the worlds.
Only when you have developed patience and forbearance
will you be able to obtain the Lord."

Desire

Desires dance dreams of delight
Banish contentment out of sight
Set us on an elusive chase
Exhaust us by running the race.

Sorrow stalks unsatisfied desires
Jealousy and anger feed the fires
The longest pain comes, and cannot hide
From desires that are satisfied.

Fear Kills

A Sanyasi once met the Cholera Goddess on the road, returning from a village where she had thinned the population.  He asked her how many she had taken into lap and she replied, "Only ten."  But really speaking the casualties were a hundred.  She explained, "I killed only ten, the rest died out of fear!"

Man is Atmaswarupa, that is, Abhayaswarupa.  If he knows his real nature, he will give no room for weakness, cowardice.

Celestial Poems of Sathya Sai Baba

"We can obtain butter by churning milk,
We can obtain fire by churning water,
But nothing can be obtained by listening to useless words,
Never forget this good word of wisdom."

You Must Not Lose Heart

"You must not lose heart when you are disappointed.
Perhaps your wish itself was wrong or its realisation
may have landed you in a worst situation.
Anyway it is the will of the Lord and He knows best."

The Begging Bowl

When a child dies, ask yourself the question, "Is it for my sake that he was born?"  He had his own destiny to fulfil, his own history to work out.

Gautama Buddha's father was so overcome with grief when he saw his son with a begging bowl in the street that he told him  thus: "Everyone of my ancestors was a King; what misfortune is this that a beggar was born in this line?"

Buddha replied: "Everyone of my ancestors had a beggar's bowl;  I know of no king in my line."

The father and son walked different paths, travelled along divergent routes.

Spread my Name

"Spread my name by the love you give
Spread my name by the actions you do
For I am always on the lookout
For a sincere devotee,
To be used by Me,
To assist Me in My mission,
To spread the divine message of:
'Give love and taste the nectar of your divinity'."

Celestial Poems of Sathya Sai Baba

"The Lord abides in the universe
And the universe abides in the Lord.
The unity of the two can never be separated.
The words of Sai are pearls of Truth."

It Is Never Too Soon

There was once a miser who lived in a leaky house; the rain water poured into the house through the roof but he sat through it all.  Neighbours laughed at him and warned him to get the roof repaired.  But in the rainy season, he replied, "Let the rains subside, how can I repair it now?"  And when the rains stopped, he replied, "Why should I worry about leaks, now the rains have stopped?"

Do not suffer the leaks when the rains come, as they are sure to do; repair the roof now itself.  That is to say, acquaint yourselves with the spiritual primers and text books now itself; begin  the first lesson of silence, prayer and chanting the Name of the Lord.

It is never too soon in the spiritual realm.

When the Avatar is Here

We scamper through life, running with fear.
When dying is mentioned, we turn a deaf ear.
Somehow we live with the thought we can take
With us, when we die, all that we make.

We must all live as if each day is the last,
Not living in the future nor dwelling in the past.
Constantly we must think about God in our chosen form,
For only with this thought can we escape being reborn.

We all must die, it is deemed that way.
We could leave our body on any given day,
But the Avatar has come and says not to fear,
That the Atma lives when the body dies here.
