Hands in Society, Head in Forest

At times one is asked the inner meaning of such Divine utterances.  They imply that one should play one's role in society, without forgetting one's true identity.  One should not get identified with the part one has to play in the world.  This can be done only by remaining awake to the Real Self, and asleep to the world.  This in turn means merging the relative consciousness into the Absolute Consciousness.  This can be achieved through constant self attention, keeping the mind unaffected by the events of the world.

(From the book "I am I" by Ratan Lal)
