Some years ago, Nalini took the subway from Queens to Manhattan in New York. After a couple of stops, a gang of hoodlums got on the train and began bothering the passengers, who dared not protest. They attacked Nalini, took her handbag and snatched the rings from her fingers.
She prayed to Swami asking Him to let them take everything if they wanted but begged Swami to get back the photo of His Lotus Feet which He had materialized specially for her on Vijayadasami Day. Instantly, that photo of Swami's Lotus Feet fell out of her handbag and she grabbed it. When she called Swami, it seemed as though the hoodlums got an electric shock. Their hands just went limp and they let go of everything. At the next station, they dashed out and ran for their lives, not daring to look back.
Nalini did not speak of this incident to anyone for a long time. But in the meanwhile Swami told a friend of hers, "That mad girl! If she had not called Me in time on the New York train, she would have been stabbed."
