Sri Chidambaryya, an advocate from Anantapur, was returning from Madras after attending a bank conference. He had boarded a first class compartment in the Bombay Mail and was preparing to go to bed. Before that he wanted to go to the toilet but instead of opening the door of the toilet, he opened the door of the compartment by mistake and stepped out!
He would have fallen to a certain death but he felt as if someone was holding him up and he was put down in a soft place and was not hurt in any way. His spectacles and wrist watch were intact but it was pitch dark and he was dazed and disoriented.
Some twenty minutes later, the Basin Bridge Station Master and a constable reached him. From his ticket they realized that he was a passenger of the Bombay Mail. He was taken to the Madras General Hospital where the doctors found him uninjured. This was indeed a miracle.
His bank manager came to see him and sent a telegram to his sons. His son left for Madras while his wife left for Puttaparthi. On seeing her, Sri Sathya Sai Baba enquired, "Why did you come here instead of going to Madras? Your husband is alright. I have seen to everything. Do you know what would have happened to him without Me?" He then described to her the whole incident.
The Railway authorities were notified about his baggage. Twenty days later they sent word that the baggage was ready to be collected.
