Sri Gopal Rao, retired Chairman of Andhra Bank, was for decades a familiar figure in the Ashram and served Swami in various capacities. After his wife passed away in May 1976, Swami permitted him to attend summer course in Ooty to get over his grief.
On his return to Bangalore, he was shocked to find his daughter crawling on the floor, unable to stand up and walk. She was found to be suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. She was immediately taken to Puttaparthi where Swami called father and daughter for interview.
Swami looked at the daughter with love and compassion and said, "See Bangaru, believe in Me fully. Keep away all medicines. You will walk and do all your household work in a week's time, I promise." He materialized vibhuti for her and gave her padanamaskar.
Arthritis disappeared as if by magic and never bothered her again and true to Swami's words, she was walking within a week.
