From IAS to SAI

When Sri Chakravarthi completed 20 years in Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1980, he was the Finance Secretary, Projects.  There was a strong urge in him to serve God directly rather than serving Him through the Government.

When he expressed his aspiration to Bhagawan, He said, "Why do you want to retire from the Indian Administrative Service so early?  If you continue in the Government, you can come here after retirement."  Chakravarthi humbly submitted to His Lord, "Swami, I want to serve the Supreme when I have still good health, enthusiasm and energy in me.  I do not know how much I can do after retirement."  But the noble prayer of the yearning of the soul was not granted immediately.  Probably, the sacred dream of a mortal heart needed its fortification by a greater penance for its fructification.

Finally, the period of waiting ended for Chakravarthi when Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning was founded in 1981.  Bhagawan wanted him to associate himself in the work of the committee for framing the rules of the Deemed University in July 1981 and made him the first registrar a few months later.   He got the promotion he had been praying for.
