On another occasion, Swami displayed a dry sense of humour to remarkable effect. A lady who was an ardent devotee could never succeed in convincing her husband. Never having seen Baba himself, he became more and more irritated by his wife's devotion and when she cried, "But you don't understand - Baba is God!" it was too much, and he burst out, "How can that shaggy-haired bear be God?"
However, in due course, he was persuaded to accompany his wife to Prasanthi Nilayam. As he sat in the Darshan line, he noticed that several people stretched out their hands to try and touch the Avatar's feet as He came near. For some reason, unknown to himself, he also stretched out his hand, whereupon Baba stepped back and with a penetrating look said, "How can a shaggy-haired bear be God?" and passed on, leaving him aghast at the realization that this incredible being could repeat the words he had uttered months before in his own home.
