Roots of Wisdom - Human Heartedness

For the sake of the mice,

they always left out rice.

In pity for the moths,

they did not light the candles.

Thoughts like these of the people of old

are the agencies that help us to flourish as human beings.

Without them we are no better

than bodies of earth and wood.

A compassionate nature is inherent in sentient beings.  All good deeds spring from compassion.  One who does not have compassion is no better than an empty shell of a body.
