After the passing away of Ramana Maharishi, whose disciple he had been for 17 years at Tiruvannamalai, Swami Amritananda was drawn to Puttaparthi by Baba's grace.
During the darshan, Baba came along and addressed him as "Amritam" - the same tender style in which the Maharishi used to call him! Baba of thirty summers so paternally, endearingly called this elder of eighty five summers.
Baba in a private audience with him, explained in detail about a Ganapathi Homa, which the Swami had performed seventy eight years ago, when he was only seven years old. Baba wanted to know from the Swami his aim of performing such kind of Homa at an early age. The Swami mumbled that the sastras prescribe some great fruits thereof. But to think that it would be booned to a seven year old ... he could not complete his narration.
Baba interposed, "Amritam", His voice sweet like nectar. He wanted to lift up the spirits of Amritananda who felt defeated in his pursuit of inducing Lord Ganesha accepting the Poornahuti oblations personally. Baba convinced the Swami that it was the Japa and Home which he had performed at that young age which had brought him to Baba who further added that the Swami was going to reap the fruits of the Homa after seventy eight years, thus proving the Sastras were not wrong.
Baba in a majestic tone commanded Amritananda to look at Him.
The Swami looked at Him and his hair stood on end. The Baba form was gone! The ruddy resplendent with the face and trunk of the King of Tuskers and the body of a man pot-bellied, and ten armed, the Great Ganesha, Mahaganapati Himself stood there beaming with joy!
Amritananda swooned in ecstasy. He was beside himself for four whole days, lost in the bliss of the wonderful experience, forgetting food, bath and sleep.
The devotee who desired to have the darshan of Lord Ganesha in flesh and blood when he was only 7 years of age, got it fulfilled at the age of 85 through the loving grace of Bhagawan Baba.
