The Touch of the Lord's Robe

Dr. D. K. Banerjee was a doctor of science and a Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.  He was a Vedantist and a cautious scientist when he heard of Baba.

In November 1961, mainly out of curiosity, he visited Puttaparthi followed by frequent visits.  The inexplicable experiences he had with Baba made him a devoted follower of Baba.

During one of his visits to Prasanthi Nilayam in the train, Dr. Banerjee had jammed his little finger in the carriage window.  It became black and swollen and was very painful.  After arriving at the Ashram, he sat with all the devotees waiting for Baba's Darshan in front of the prayer hall.  Baba came out of His room and started walking in His accustomed way along the narrow aisle between the rows of people.  Banerjee was in a front row and when Baba reached near him, He stopped.  But instead of looking at Banerjee, Baba turned His back and leaning over, spoke to someone in the opposite row.  As Baba bent forward to speak to that person, the back edge of His robe stroked and covered the doctor's hands, resting on his lap as he was sitting cross-legged on the ground.  Then after a moment, Baba moved on without saying a word to the doctor.

Shortly afterwards, the doctor realized that the throbbing pain in his finger had practically subsided.  Looking at it, he saw with amazement that all the blackness and swelling had completely vanished.  The damaged finger was in fact now quite normal.  The love of the Lord flowed through His robe, touched the devotee's finger, bringing about a complete cure.
