Why Ganesha is Called 'Ekadanta'

Bhagawan tells us how Lord Ganesha became a one-tusked God.

Another name given to this God is Siddhi Vinayaka and Buddhi Vinayaka, Siddhi Buddhi Vinayaka.  This wisdom is highly refined and very sharp.  Among the poets, He is the greatest!

Once upon a time, Vyasa asked Ganapathi to write or take down the Mahabharata when he was dictating.  While writing, He had to write a number of shlokas (verses) because the Mahabharata consists of thousands of lakhs of shlokas.

Vinayaka has been teaching to the world that one should not waste time.  When the pen was broken while writing, without wasting time, He broke one of His tusks and began using it as a pen for writing.  That is why He has got another name as 'Ekadanta'.
