Possessiveness

"Possessiveness has no limit or boundary.  Also, once we possess something that we have desired we lose interest in it.

The moment we want to have some article or an object, we struggle to get it.  But after getting it, the next moment we think of what is next!  Earlier, we were sad because we did not have it.  After obtaining it, we are still dissatisfied.  "What next?" is the problem!  Possessiveness is dangerous because even after our acquisition, we remain disillusioned.

Emperor Alexander consulted an astrologer on his future.  The astrologer replied, "Oh, emperor!  You will be truly great.  You will conquer the whole world.  But oh, emperor!  There is only one world."

Alexander was disappointed.  "After conquering the whole world, what next?  Heaven or hell?"

Hence, even after possessing something that we really want, it ends only in sadness and dissatisfaction.  Possessiveness is only a comma, never a full stop - we continue to hanker after worldly things."

(From the book "Sai-chology" by Prof K. Anil Kumar)
