A religious person, a spiritual one, always feels that he/she is ordinary. Jesus Christ was an ordinary person. So was Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. Most precious things in life are ordinary - the sky, the stars, moonlight and sunlight. Unfortunately, humans want to be extraordinary and there lies the problem. In the process, he becomes a laughing stock. No one should try to be unique because there is nothing extraordinary in being extraordinary. To be ordinary is extraordinary because most precious things in life are commonplace.
Once Bhagawan complimented the author on his new suit, being the author's birthday suit. Then He said, "I am the same, same - birthday or any day - I wear the same dress, whereas you have a new suit on your birthday" It is human tendency to feel special on birthdays or on festivals and also to feel special on such occasions. But God does not have any such feeling.
On particular events when special food is served to VIPs, Swami partakes of only two spoonfuls of rice and then gets up. For Him it is the same food and same dress everyday, which is very, very ordinary.
