The river Chitravathi used to go quite dry in summer. People visiting Puttaparthi then had to go in search of wells with water.
One evening, during the Chitravathi session, the devotees became very thirsty due to the heat. The water that they had carried in a small brass water pot was finished. When they expressed their plight to Baba, He moved His legs this way and that. Lo! Water began to flow from His big toes! The devotees collected the holy water in their ports and drank it. They found the water very sweet. Baba revealed that it was the water of the Ganges river!
