Loving Swami
Q21: How is one to love Swami? What is exactly meant when it is said that we love Swami?
A: You know pet animals like dogs and cats exhibit emotion towards their masters when they enter the house, by gestures such as licking, scratching, etc. Similarly, many of the devotees indulge in scratching the feet of Swami or run after his car. This is not love but only the affection of a pet creature but actual loving of Swami is following His commands and not just preaching. An example: Yashoda one day searched for Krishna at several places but could not find him. In this process, she came across the tiny footprints smeared with curds. She implicitly followed them and could locate Krishna. Krishna just then stealthily completed eating the cheese and drinking the curds in a house and in that act, spilled the curd from the pot. Treading on the spilled curds while running away in a hurry, he left his footprints in his way!) Just as Yashoda succeeded in locating the Lord by following His footprints, so too you should implicitly follow the message or command of Swami and locate or gain him.
