I remember Swami was returning from Kodaikanal in the hot summer month of May, by car. It was Salem, probably one of the hottest places in South India. As Swami’s car was going, He heard strains of bhajans going on. Here was a set of devotees who were sitting by the roadside and doing bhajans since they knew Swami’s car was going to go that way. It was 50 degrees! Swami said, “Stop the car”. They stopped the car and Swami got down from the car, stood barefoot on the hot tar road, listening to these bhajans, the police or security men, could barely stand on that hot road and were jumping in spite of waring socks. Here was Swami standing barefoot, beautifully enjoying the entire bhajan.
One student offered Swami his footwear: a pair of footwear. Swami said, “No, keep the footwear in”. He stood barefoot on the road. When Swami came back and sat in His car, Swami had blisters on his Feet for the next four days. He takes upon himself and says that this is nothing compared to the love that I have got there. These are the beautiful moments and beautiful lessons that this Guru, the Sadguru teaches us.
