Dussehra is also called Dasara or Vijayadashami. The festival's name is derived from the Sanskrit words "dasha" (ten) and "hara" (defeat) which means the removal oF the following ten bad qualities within you:
Kama vasana (Lust)
Krodha (Anger)
Moha (Attachment)
Lobha (Greed)
Mada (Over Pride)
Matsara (Jealousy)
Swartha (Selfishness)
Anyaaya (Injustice)
Amanavta (Cruelty)
Ahankara (Ego)
It is also known as "Vijayadashami" which means victory over the ten bad qualities, represented by the ten heads of Ravana. This day is also a celebration of victory of Durga Mata over Mahishasura on the tenth day of battle.
