No Memory?

 

Question: Swami!  There are thousand and eight names of God.  In my old age, my memory is failing.  How can we remember all the names of God?

Baba: You say you have no memory.  I don't agree.  When were you married?

The man replied, "1940!"

Baba: How many children do you have?"

The man said, "Only six."

Then Baba asked for the dates of birth and dates of marriage of each of the children.  The man gave all the accurate dates and places too.

Baba smilingly said, "O!  I see!  You remember all these dates perfectly but you are not able to remember the ashtottara name? (Thousand and eight names).  Because you have interest and attachment to your children, you remember all the dates but you don't want to remember Bhagawan's names.  So, saying that you have no memory is ridiculous!  It is the interest that is responsible for every thing.  You remember even your bank interest also.  So ultimately it is the interest with which you do everything."
