Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
We sat impatiently waiting for Your darshan.
We looked anxiously at our watches,
oh, when will Swami come…?

Then there is a hush and You appeared,
a beautiful vision of light and love.
You glided slowly and gracefully towards us
and our aching hearts sighed with bliss.
“Swami! Swami!” we whispered.

You came close to us and
we held our breath in excitement.
Then You said the magic word “Go!”.
Oh, could this be true?
We sped towards Your interview room and
waited quietly outside for You.

Then You ushered us in and we sat before You,
tears streaming down our cheeks.
You spoke softly, gently to us.
Some of us timidly touched Your Lotus Feet,
others gazed at You, lost in bliss.
Then it was over too soon.
We filed quietly out of the room,
our hearts bursting with joy.

Thank you, dear Lord,
for those precious moments.
Only You know when to give,
who to give, what to give.

A Smile

"A smile is a rose that grows on the thorn of a sigh.
Shed tears but only for joy,
joy that you are released from the chain of desires."

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
When I was small, I used to ask who is God,
where does He stay, can I see Him one day.
When I grew up, I searched for God everywhere.
I travelled across oceans and continents
But still I could not find Him.
Then my friends told me God lives in India.
So to India I went and I found YOU!
What joy, what bliss, how my heart sang!
God does live in India!

Happy Wesak Day (Buddha Purnima)

Namasmarana

"Namasmarana is the most effective Sadhana.
Remember with each name the glory behind each name.
Escape from the clutches of anger, jealousy, hatred, malice and greed.

Do not seek to discover other's defects; do not delight over them;
when others point out your defects, be thankful; or keep quiet
as Buddha did."

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
When I’m old and grey and
Sitting in a rocking chair,
I shall tell my grandchildren
of this wondrous Avatar called
Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
I shall tell them of His wonderful
miracles and the Message He brought
to mankind.
And when I kiss them goodnight,
I shall tell them to sleep tight because
He is watching over them
just as He watched over their grandma
when she was young ….

Food for the Mind

"The mind is the key to health and happiness and so,
food must be so chosen so that it does not
affect the mind adversely.
Along with Sathwic food, the mind must also
be given a special diet like
Dhyana, Japa, Namasmarana, etc.
to keep it sound and steady."

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
How lucky I am to know You in this life.
I’ve never known a love so pure, so sweet.
Take charge of my life, dear Lord
And lead me on ….!

God is the Great Unseen

"God is the great unseen, the unknowable.
Recognise that there is God as the very basis of creation.
Pray to Him and He will shower fruit."
(Sadhana - The Inward Path)

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
I ask so much of You but
You ask so little of me.
You are always there,
waiting patiently.
O Lord, take my hand and
walk with me on this long
and lonely journey.
O Lord, please lead me home.

Grow Day by Day

"You must grow day by day, not only physically but in the spiritual life also.

How long are you staying on in the primary school,

writing down the letters of the alphabet?

Get up, demand an examination, pass and move forward

to the higher school!"

(Sadhana - The Inward Path)

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
How many times have I cried
and You have cradled me in Your arms?
How many times have I fallen
and You have picked me up?
Thank you, Lord,
I’m so glad You have me, your child,
In Your warm and loving care!

Live Simply

"Reduce wants, live simply, that is the way to happiness.
Attachment brings sorrow in its wake;
At last, when death demands that everything be left behind
and everybody be deserted, you are overpowered with grief!
Be like the lotus on water; On it, not in it.
Water is necessary for the lotus to grow,
but it will not allow even a drop to wet it."
(Sadhana - The Inward Path)

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
What are birthdays?
Many a time you have reminded us that
our birthday should be a day of rebirth,
A new beginning,
A new life full of joy and loving service
to our fellowmen …
O Lord, let us not cling to tinsel and gold,
Let us yearn to be closer to You on each birthday and
be Your messengers of light and love!

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
We spent this morning with the old,
We prayed together, we sang together;
We saw the happy smiles on their wrinkled faces,
and remembered what you said, to see God in everyone.
Thank you, Lord, for helping us spread sunshine.
Samasta Lokha Sukhino Bhavantu.

Three Things

"There are three things which one should keep in mind, namely
I will not think of anything else except God;
I will not do anything else without the permission of God and
I will have my attention completely fixed on God."
(Sadhana - The Inward Path)

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
Flowers for You,
my Matha, Pitha, Sadguru.
Flowers to say thank You
for Your love, patience and understanding.
Every time I err, You forgive me;
Every time I’m sad, You comfort me.
O Matha, Pitha, Sadguru,
Your love knows no bounds.
Years may roll by, the earth may change,
But please don’t leave us
for lost we shall be without You!

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
Today I failed your test again.
I spoke angry words,
I hurt someone’s feelings.
In frustration, I escaped to my garden
and sat beneath a tree.
“O tree,” I whispered. “Do you ever get angry?”
I heard a rustle of leaves above me.
I saw a butterfly flit across the sky.
“O butterfly,” I whispered. “Do you ever get angry?”
It flew towards me and brushed against my arm.
If only they could both speak to me.
O Lord, will You teach me how to conquer this loathsome enemy
called Anger?

Asatho Maa Sath Gamaya

"Asatho maa sath gamaya"

From this transient world of decay, lead me to the everlasting world of Bliss

"Thamaso maa jyothir gamaya"

Give me the effulgence of Thy Grace and illumine my soul with Truth

"Mruthyor maa amritham gamaya"

Save me from the torture of birth and death,

Destroy the cravings of the mind which produce the seeds of birth.

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
I’m looking for a job.
Is there anything I can do for you?

Let me help you paint the sky blue,
Let me help you polish the stars till they shine,
Let me help you paint the rainbows too;
Let me help you water the parched fields and bring
sunshine into the dark forests,
Let me help you bring joy and peace to all corners of the earth.

Let me do this and more,
For to serve You is the best job I could ever ask for!

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
I sat at your Lotus Feet, blissful and content.
Then You smiled at me and slowly vanished.
I searched for You everywhere but I could not find You.
Tears filled my eyes … then I woke up.
It was only a dream.

I saw that same gentle smile in Your picture above my bed.
I saw the words you had written on it
- Why Fear When I am Here -
and I knew I had not lost You.
It was only a dream.

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
Disappointments are hard to take
but if it is Your will, so be it.
As we walk by the bubbling brook,
we hear it echo our thoughts,
“When will we see You again?
When will we see You again….?”
Only You know when
and we shall wait patiently.

Potency of Brahmaarpanam Mantra

"When I was in Brindavan in May this year, I had the opportunity to attend the morning talks at Sai Krishan Kalyana Mandap.

On one of the days, Uncle Prahlad Rao gave a talk and he covered the potency of the food mantra stated below.

In the early days (70’s if I recall), Swami had asked all the Brindavan campus college boys to join Him for lunch. At that time, only about 100 boys were there. Kirlian photographer Dr Baranowski was also there and was invited for lunch.

The sumptuous food was laid out on plates in front of the boys. The boys were waiting for Swami to come and join them. Dr Baranowski then used his Kirlian camera and took photos of the food laid out on the plates. No aura was found around the plates of food.

Later, Swami arrived and joined the boys for lunch. The boys recited the Brahmaarpanam mantra before partaking the food. After the mantra was recited, Dr Baranowski again took pictures of the food. This time, a blue aura was found around the plates of food. He was excited, but, having a scientific mind, asked Swami for the reason for the blue aura around the food.

Swami said that the Brahmaarpanam mantra is a very powerful mantra and that after recitation, the food is converted to prasadam, since it has been offered to God. It further purifies the food and all items around it. That is why the blue aura was found around the plates of food after the mantra was recited.”

Dear Lord ...

Dear Lord,
You always hear my prayers,
How many times have You shown me You truly care?
This morning I woke up feeling sad,
I prayed to You, I poured out my heart.
Then the rays of the sun slipped through my window
and I knew You were there,
always had been and always will be.
